This makes it easier to prioritize keywords, filter your Rank Tracker, and monitor ranking movements across specific themes. Tags are created at the **account level**, so you can reuse them across your tracked keywords. Each tag includes a name and color, with an optional description to provide additional context. ### Why use custom keyword tags? - **Organize keywords by theme:** Group keywords based on product launches, campaigns, search intent, or other categories relevant to your strategy. - **Prioritize important keywords:** Quickly identify the keywords you want to monitor more closely. - **Simplify rank tracking:** Filter your Rank Tracker to display only keywords assigned to selected tags. - **Monitor performance by group:** Review ranking movements across a specific keyword theme without manually searching through your entire list. **Follow this walkthrough to create custom keyword tags, organize your keywords into meaningful groups, and filter the Rank Tracker for easier tracking and analysis.** [How to Create and Use Custom Keyword Tags in Keyword Ranking](https://app.supademo.com/embed/cmw3btj3g0e9zqmuzttcv7mnn?embed_v=2&utm_source=embed) ### How to Create Custom Tags Before assigning tags to your keywords, you'll need to create them. 1. Select one or more tags you want to display. 4. Click **Apply filter**. The Rank Tracker will now show only keywords assigned to your selected tags. This is especially useful when you want to review a specific campaign or keyword group without scrolling through your entire tracked keyword list. ### Example Use Case: Organizing Keywords for a Product Launch Imagine you're launching a new product and want to monitor how it ranks for different types of search terms. Instead of managing all your tracked keywords as one long list, you can create tags based on your launch strategy. For example: | Tag | Purpose | | --- | --- | | Product Launch | Keywords you're monitoring specifically for the launch | | High Priority | Important keywords that need closer attention | | Competitor Terms | Keywords related to competing products or brands | | Long-Tail Keywords | Specific search phrases you're targeting | You can assign multiple tags to a keyword. For example, a high-value long-tail keyword can have both **High Priority** and **Long-Tail Keywords** tags. When reviewing performance, filter by **Product Launch** to see all relevant keywords together. You can then review their ranking movements and identify which search terms are gaining or losing visibility. As your campaign progresses, you can update keyword tags to reflect changing priorities. ### Managing and Deleting Tags You can manage keyword groupings by adding or removing tags from individual keywords. ![](https://245731704.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hubfs/245731704/image-png-Nov-06-2026-04-14-23-1587-AM.png) If a tag is no longer needed, you can delete it from the tag popover. ![](https://245731704.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hubfs/245731704/image-png-Nov-06-2026-04-19-53-5300-AM.png) Before deleting, Scale Insights will display a warning showing how many keywords currently have that tag assigned. ![](https://245731704.fs1.hubspotusercontent-na2.net/hubfs/245731704/image-png-Nov-06-2026-04-21-25-0199-AM.png) > [!NOTE] > **Important:** Deleting a tag removes it from every keyword it's currently assigned to. This action cannot be undone. Review the affected keywords before confirming deletion. ### Limitations and Important Notes - **Account-level tags:** Tags are created at the account level and can be reused across tracked keywords. - **Maximum of 50 tags:** Each account can have up to 50 custom tags. - **Multiple tags per keyword:** A keyword can have more than one tag assigned. - **Manual assignment:** Tags must be created and assigned to keywords manually. - **Deletion is permanent:** Deleting a tag removes it from all associated keywords and cannot be undone. - **Saving is required:** Changes to keyword tag assignments only take effect after clicking **Save**. ### Related Articles - [Understanding Keyword Ranking](https://docs.scaleinsights.com/docs/how-keyword-ranking-works) - [How to Track Keyword Rankings](https://docs.scaleinsights.com/docs/how-to-track-keywords-and-asins)
