Incorrect number of promotions

Article summary

If you see missing promotions in the sales dashboard, it can be due to pending orders.

Shipping promotions not counted

The sales dashboard and trends report only include item promotions, not shipping promotions.

It considers an order having an item promotion if it has an item promotion value

However, pending orders do not always have this value.

Orders without item promotion value not counted

While Scale Insights shows Promotion Id for pending orders and can infer if it is an item promotion, doing so can be misleading if the item promotion value is not yet available.

Example

You created 1000 promotions for $1 off.

50 orders are shipped, while 950 orders are still in pending status.

Scale Insights found 1000 promotions, with 50 promotions having a total $50 promotion value.

If the sales dashboard shows 1000 promotions with a $50 promotional value, it can be misleading as the expected promotional value is $1000.

Verifying correctness of promotion data

Amazon promotions include item and shipping promotions, while Scale Insights only counts item promotions.

If you go to Seller Central, refer to older dates where most orders are shipped, and exclude anything with "shipping" in the promotion description.

The promotion counts in Scale Insights and Seller Central are much closer.
