Why are the status rules not working?

Article summary

If you use both dayparting and status rules on the same ad groups, the dayparting rule may overwrite actions performed by the status rule.

The below image shows a status rule pausing a poor-performing ad group while dayparting keeps re-enabling it.

To use both status rules and dayparting:

  1. Ensure you have 1 campaign and 1 ad group structure.
  2. Add status rules to pause the campaign and ad group for a poor-performing ad group.
  3. Add status rules to enable the campaign but keep the ad group status unchanged. Refer to the preset rule "Resume Ads (With Day Parting)."

The algorithms will work like this:

  1. If an ad group stops performing, the status rule will pause the campaign and the ad group.
  2. Dayparting will not make any changes, as it does not act on paused campaigns for Sponsored Products.
  3. If an ad group with updated sales attribution causes ACOS to drop to a healthy level, another status rule will enable the campaign.
  4. In the following hours, when dayparting runs, it will enable the ad group if it falls within the active hours.
